We are using ColdFusion 2018 internally on Windows Server 2016. The Nutanix cluster on which ColdFusion is installed in a virtual machine is scheduled to migrate to a new Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI). This change will be transparent at layer 3 (routing). However, we need to find out if any part of the ColdFusion licensing is tied to a Windows server or to a server instance. We need to know if our ColdFusion 2018 license will still be recognized and valid after migration. Can anyone please assist with this question? Thank you.
Hi Charlie, thanks so much for replying. Please clarify your Short Answer — are you saying “No, the license will not be recognized/valid after migration”?
I would love to upgrade and hopefully those who control the purse strings will eventually agree. Since the server is internal-facing the urgency hasn’t been there.
Short answer: no
Longer answer: you’re rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. Beware that Adobe stopped updating cf2018 in July 2023, five years after its release. That includes security updates.
You should be moving to cf2023–which will be updated to 2028, and which is the only version Adobe currently sells (once a new version comes out, they stop selling the previous version, so you can no longer buy cf2021.)
I’ll note as well that while Adobe only offers an upgrade discount (50% off) for those on that immediately preceding version, some good news is that one cf reseller has been authorized to offer an upgrade discount (25%) to those on cf2018 and earlier. The deadline had been set as Sept 30, but I heard from them at cf summit last week that the deadline was being extended. See more here, https://fusion-reactor.com/blog/save-25-on-adobe-cf2023-upgrades/ (which has the old date, as I write).
I know this is far more than you’d asked, but I hope you may find it to be info that you ought to have.
