Hi,

I am wondering if CF 2018 or maybe the new CF 2021 developer edition is compatible with the Mac M1 chip (Mac mini M1) running Big Sur 11.2?

Any updates on M1 support? Is there any support planned for M1 / BigSur for CF2021?

Hi,

We tried this on M1 but we are facing issue while starting the CF. We are looking into this and will come up with an update.

I want to add something to what I said here. There was since another thread overnight posted on the Facebook CF Programmers group, and I offered a more elaborate reply where I also pointed out two possibilities to consider (if the problem turns out to be primarily about the installer): using the CF2021 Zip deployment option, or using the CF Docker images, which are available from Adobe for CF2021, 2018, and 2016.

For more, including links, see my reply in that other thread.

I’m not as pessimistic. I suspect we’ll see an update and perhaps new installer for Big Sur for cf2021 at least, and likely cf2018, and perhaps cfbuilder 2018, but not cf2016 (whose support ended last week).

Cf is a big ship. It doesn’t turn on a dime. And they have never tended to have supoort for some thing’s latest version (os, db, etc) when it comes out. It tends to take months. We’re not privy to the reasons, and naturally some will cast it in a derisive light. Maybe there is justification for the delay.

It’s indeed unfortunate when it’s an os and people are trying to use cf or cfb on it. All we can do is wait. But history shows that the support will come in time. Those who can’t wait or can’t tolerate the wait can vote with their feet/dollars. That’s generally how commercial vendors are moved off an entrenched pattern. Our voices here tend to have little effect.

It’s not just the new Apples with the M1 chips. It also affects those Mac that have upgraded to Big Sur.  I put in a support request over 2 months ago and the only real response I got from Adobe was effectively  “So What.”

At this point I wouldn’t be too optimistic about CF2018 or CF2018Builder becoming compatible any time soon.
