While most may know that CF has always been free for development use, did you know that folks in education (students, teachers, and staff) can obtain CF Standard licenses, for use in learning (though not production)?

This topic is covered in a section in the available ColdFusion FAQ. There’s an FAQ for CF Standard and one for CF Enterprise, and both say the same thing about this matter, in their section of questions on “Complimentary ColdFusion Standard for education“.

There are a few questions within that section, and each offers useful info on the topic, such as:

  • How students, faculty, and staff can prove eligibility
  • How long it will take for the licenses to arrive
  • How to get multiple licenses for lab use
  • and more

If you may have still more questions, you can post them here but if you don’t get an answer (or prefer not to ask publicly), consider using the email address offered in the FAQ for expressing interest in the program: adobecoldfusion@adobe.com.

And if you perhaps didn’t know about CF being free for development, check out my very first post here in the CF portal, from 2017, “CF install/deployment choices: what’s right for me?“.

Thanks Charlie. Are you familiar with any resource that provides materials for professors interested in teaching ColdFusion?

There had been an effort in the past where Adobe created and made available such materials, a semester’s worth at a college level. See the 2013 blog post:
https://coldfusion.adobe.com/2013/06/coldfusion-education-initiative-new-web-application-development-curriculum-from-adobe/

I don’t know that that it went far. The comments peter out in 2014, and I haven’t heard about the effort for some years, though that doesn’t mean it has died on the vine.

You’ll see there in the post that interested folks were asked to reach out to the CF Product Manager Rakshith (who still has that role), at his email address offered there.  If you or anyone else may do that to find out where things stand (or already knows), please do share an update here.
