Richard, if you installed CFB in standalone configuration, try running it as Administrator (right-click shortcut > Run as Administrator). Otherwise CFB does not have the required security level to start/stop Windows services, including the CF server.

If you installed CFB in plug-in configuration in an existing Eclipse installation, then similarly you need to start Eclipse as an Administrator.

Legorol, he is not referring to starting/stopping CF. He is referring to accessing the Administrator.

As I was trying to get at last month here, this i simply down to how the “server” (whose admin he is trying to launch) is configured in CFB. CFB simply uses that URL (for the server) to launch the Admin. It’s nothing more tricky than that. So it’s usually just a matter of that not being properly configured.

Richard, when I asked what URL you use to access the CF Admin, I was getting at how THAT then should be the domain used for the definition of the server (in CFBuilder).

Finally, if you can’t get it to work, it really is just a convenience. If, as you say, the RDS features work, then that’s where you will get the real value in CFB being connected to the server. Being able to launch the Admin, while nice, should not be so frequent as to make this a show-stopper. It would seem a browser bookmark would suffice.

But let us know if you have reason to see it otherwise, and if you want to keep digging into this. We’re here for you (though it’s hard to be sure to see replies in a timely manner).

Charlie, I see, maybe he is referring to that. That’s not how I read his post when I first read it, and now that I reread it, I find it ambiguous. All he said was “Administration functions not working.”, and my first thought was the start/stop/restart functions in the CF Servers view inside CFB.

Actually, until now I didn’t even know that you can launch the CF server admin webpage from inside CFB, I only started looking at how to do that because of your comment. It’s not an obvious feature.

He does mention that RDS data view and queries work, which is more closely related the start/stop/restart feature, which is another reason why I thought of that.

At least I learnt something new today 🙂

FWIW, CFB is the biggest $300 mistake I have ever made…..

It doesn’t work as advertised, IDE… and you get no support from Adobe….

Richard, while I can’t help with the expenditure, nor with a lack of support from Adobe that you may experience, I can say that I did try to help below. You never replied.

Can you please consider the assistance I offered, to get it to “work as advertised” for you?

It does indeed “work”. If ever it doesn’t, it’s either a config issue or a bug (and there are updates that address those, which often folks have failed to apply).

Are you saying you CAN get to the Admin from outside of CFB? If not, have you tried it? If it works, first what’s the url for that?

Then show us the config of your rds properties for the server as set within CFB. There may simply be a mismatch.

Finally, FWIW, the dump of server info shows that page running on the CF installed outside of CFB. There is a option in CFB to install a CF of its own, which would be installed WITHIN the CFB folder.

And CFB would then have a server config for that. Can you confirm also how many servers are defined in the Servers view (window>show view>coldfusion>servers).

I’m writing all this from my phone. Sorry for any slips.

RDS User Name: ColdfusionUser

And CFB would then have a server config for that. Can you confirm also how many servers are defined in the Servers view (window>show view>coldfusion>servers). Only the one to the CF2018 Server (external)

Have already installed all Updates.

RDS Password: Is this users password

BTW: The RDS DataView and executing queries are all working fine.

Richard, somehow your reply to me has become all garbled and is incomplete (not providing all I asked for). Rather than fight this challenge, let’s spend 5 minutes in an online session together.  I suspect we would quickly help you see what the problem is and have it resolved for you. This would be free (though I usually charge for such online troubleshooting). Consider it a small return on your investment in CFB. Reach out to me at charlie@carehart.org, pointing me to this post to remind me (if it’s more than a day before you may see and reply to this). If there is some problem, we can then explain it better to folks and try to get Adobe to address it if I cannot.
