How to claim complimentary CF Builder licence?

I have reached the “Guide” level on the ColdFusion community portal. According to

https://coldfusion.adobe.com/levels/

this makes me eligible for “12 months of complimentary license usage for ColdFusion Builder”, but there are no instructions on that page about how to claim this licence.

Can anyone help or clarify?

Hi Legorol,

From now on wards as soon as your level changes you could write to me at kishore@adobe.com and we would provide the incentives. You do not have to wait till the end of the year. I apologize for the confusion and thank you for all your contribution.

Thanks Charlie for bringing this to our notice again.

Regards,

kishore

Are there any plans to automate the level notifications?   Just curious.  If not maybe you could add your response on emailing as text on the “Levels & Incentives” page so people will know going forward.

I just happened across this thread today as it came up in my “More like this” listing and never would have known to email otherwise.

I got a CF Builder license the first year of the portal and then had the note show up  about it so long afterwards i had forgotten I got it.  I didn’t realize it was tied to the year till this thread and could have emailed.

Thanks

Legorol, did this ever get resolved? If he says no, can someone from Adobe step in to help clarify things?

I have received no reply from Adobe or any rewards.

I consider this “resolved” already, in that Rahul’s reply implies to me that I will not be receiving any rewards at this time, and that the system does not work the way it’s described on the “levels” page.

I am not pursuing this.

Sorry to hear that. I can say that they DO offer the rewards. I got the ones when I reached the “wizard” level,  though not immediately.  It seems to involve manual effort.

For instance, I reached the “legend” level earlier this week, and while I got a seeming automated email acknowledging it, I’ve not received another in the few days since with any info on that level’s rewards.

Hoping I will hear from them eventually, of course. But I understand these programs take effort, and it could slip through the cracks.

But to be clear, I brought this up because I was hopeful you’d have gotten or will get the correct resolution, and (as my experience has been) in the year you attained the level.

Legorol, I suspect that will be a frustrating answer about achieving level benefits.

In the meantime, did you realize first that there is a free editon of cfbuilder? It’s called the express edition, and it’s what a cfb trial reverts to after 60 days when you have not entered a license key. I have a blog post on that here:

https://coldfusion.adobe.com/?p=1701

(That said, I just tweaked it a bit so it will seem missing until Adobe releases it from moderation.)

Finally, if you buy cf, did you know you get a cfb license included:

https://helpx.adobe.com/coldfusion/builder/faq.html#Pricingandeditions

I actually thought your question was about that last matter when I saw the title. (The person who buys cf is emailed the license info for cfb.)

Anyway, I offer all that as some possible consolation for your situation, but also it may help others who see your question and come looking but didn’t know about either of the above options.

Thanks Charlie, I am aware of all those options (I’ve been an advanced CFB user for many years), but I appreciate you drawing attention to it anyway. Indeed it can be useful for others who stumble on this question.

Rahul’s reply, if true, is very disappointing. I was going to encourage others to contribute on this community portal, dangling the prospect of a CFB licence as a carrot, but that will be hard if I have to tell them they need to wait a year for their reward.

Yep, but to clarify, is it in fact that you just started contributing in 2019? If so, great for reaching the guide level so quickly. 🙂

So Adobe, if that’s the case, does the program really make people wait to the following year to get their benefit? That does seem odd.

I am not sure when my very first contribution was, it was probably sometime in 2018. I’ve been a registered user for a long time, from before the switch to this new community portal.

However, I did recently get much more active as I took an interest in this portal. My stats show that out of my current 172 points, I gained 166 in the last 30 days.

If you have started contributing in the year 2019, you will be rewarded next year.

Firstly, I don’t understand the significance of the year 2019. Reading the “Yearly Points Information” section of the linked page, it looks clear to me that everything is done on the basis of 365-day intervals from the point of achieving the various ranks, it’s not done by year 2019 or year 2020.

Secondly, there is no mention at all on the linked page that you need to attain a given level and then wait a year to get rewarded with the incentives. Are you saying that now that I have attained the Guide level, I can go completely inactive and wait a year, and get rewarded in a year’s time? That doesn’t make too much sense to me. Nor does it seem to tie in with the FAQ on the linked page.
