At one point I thought that this portal was automatically loading forum posts from the Adobe Community Forum. This no longer appears to be the case as there are numerous recent posts to the forums that aren’t showing here.  I didn’t realize this – I was watching the Q&A category here and seeing almost nothing coming through.  I (naively) assumed there wasn’t much traffic over on the forums, and hadn’t bothered confirming.  However, just looked this morning and noted there are dozens of posts there that didn’t show up here.

Is the portal supposed to be loading content from the forums?

Just FYI, I created cfaether.com as a way for community members to search across Portal and Tracker.

Just trying to help.

Thanks!,

Thanks, Anit. At least one problem seems solved, though perhaps not the most important.

So first, I can confirm that after your updates today, all 40 of the blog posts since July 10 (most being on CF2018) do show up now when one clicks the “blog” category. That was just not the case, when I first commented above earlier this week.

But the first problem I raise there remains: if you go to the front page of the portal (coldfusion.adobe.com), you will find 12 blog posts listed, then it will show Q&A’s. If you click “show more”, it shows more q&a’s, and then more blog posts but starting with the ones on CFFIDDLE and on the updates for CF 2016 and 11. We do NOT see there the 30-some blog posts on CF2018 topics.

Why would those be missing from the display on the front page, even when one uses “show more”? There’s still some bug there.

(And I get it that someone may have decided not to show ALL blog posts on the front page, leaving room for Q&As. But if one choose “show more”, then they SHOULD eventually see the other 30 blog posts that have been posted since the one on CFFiddle in May.)

Finally, I am intentionally not posting this as a reply to my earlier comment or Anit’s different replies. I really don’t care for ever-deepning indentation of comments used here. On a mobile phone, it is soon down to a single word per line. (This is another one of those things that we, who use the portal, do sincerely hope will be addressed in the near future, now that CF2018 is released.)

So again, Anit, thanks for what you did today. It helped the problem of getting “all blog posts to appear in the blog category”. (I hope whatever solved that is something that will prevent that happening in the future.) But this other problem remains, where “all blog posts do not appear on the portal front page, even when using ‘show more'”.

Hope that’s helpful.

Thanks Charile.

Regarding, “all blog posts do not appear on the portal front page, even when using ‘show more’”, we are working on some changes on the Community Portal and hopefully, this will be addressed with that. If not, I will invest some time on it, after that.

Thanks, Anit. And I see in fact that the blog posts on the front page are starting to reflect the changes you are doing. Sadly, the same problem exists as before: it shows their date/time as being “minutes ago” –which of course is the date/time reflecting when you have just edited them, not the date/time they were created (which was now often days or weeks ago).

I have lamented this before (when the portal first came out): that if any of us who write blogs were to edit them, suddenly they a) show a date/time reflecting their update not creation (which is confusing in some cases) and b) they suddenly show up at the TOP of the portal (which is ALSO confusing because they no longer appear in the order they were written).

Can you please in investigate that behavior, and hopefully change it? So that the date/time shown reflects the date CREATED rather than when WRITTEN? (If you wanted to add some indication of when updated also, that would be understandable.) And the sort order for presenting them should be the date CREATED.

Would you (and readers) agree?

We can’t correct blog comments, so I will offer here that in my next-to-last paragraph, I of course meant to open it as:

Can you please investigate that behavior, and hopefully change it, so that the date/time shown reflects the date CREATED rather than when UPDATED?

Thanks Charlie.

I agree to your point on content loading. We are working on this and this should be fixed soon, with few more changes.

As per your comment – “Can you please investigate that behaviour, and hopefully change it, so that the date/time shown reflects the date CREATED rather than when UPDATED?”, here is my response – Unfortunately, we tried that (when you last reported), but there were few limitation. We are working on some changes on the Community Portal and hopefully, this will be addressed with that. If not, I will invest some time on it, after that.

So you guys can update comments, it seems (as I noted below, we cannot). Interesting. That said, I really think you should have offered your “update” here (the last two paragraphs above) as a reply to my comment below. Someone reading THAT may not see THIS. I don’t see what value there would be in your having instead updated this earlier comment.

As always, I’m just trying to help (readers and you guys), with an objective perspective of how things look to folks trying to follow along.

Thanks for raising this, Carl, and for seeing that it’s fixed, Anit.

There’s another unfortunate problem, as long as those are being addressed now: if you go to the front page of the portal, you’ll see several blog posts, including a couple on cf2018.

If you hit the button to show more, you see a few more blog posts including a couple more on cf2018, then (on just that one next page), you see blog posts from *months* ago. Where are the 20+ that came out on cf2018? That’s the first (tragic) bug.

Of course, someone will say “click the blog category link”, and indeed then we DO see most of the 20+ posts on CF2018–but we shouldn’t have to do that, right? Someone paging through the portal fron the front page should see all blog posts, right? But they don’t. Again, in the first couple of pages “from the front” only SEVERAL blog posts show before ones from MONTHS ago.

Then again, even among those first several blog posts shown on the front page of the portal, many don’t show up in the blog category. That’s a DIFFERENT problem.

For instance, the several blog posts on that portal front page today end with the one about cfbloggers. But if you go to the blog category, there are only a couple of those shown before the one on cfbloggers.

There’s clearly some disconnect between something BEING LABELLED a blog post and it showing up IN THE BLOG CATEGORY. And the disconnect goes in both directions. Please fix that also.

Finally, some have asked for a way to easily find blog posts from the Adobe team. That’s a feature request, and perhaps more challenging to solve. The issues above are more objectively bugs.

Hi Carl,

Apologies for the delay.

The portal is supposed to load contents from the forums dynamically. There were some issues and we have fixed it. You can either go to CATEGORIES>>Q&A or https://coldfusion.adobe.com/category/qa/ to view the same.

Let me know, if you still see an issue.
