Recently, we saw few queries where, PDFg service manager was not starting, post installation. Installing an Add-on installer resolves the issue often. However, installing an Add-on installer can be a bit tricky sometimes. Let me walk you through the steps involved:

  1. Firstly, we recommend that you take a backup of your ColdFusion Installer.
  2. Uninstall the Add-on services from Add/Remove Programs panel within the Control Panel.
  3. After the uninstallation is complete, ensure that there are no residual files/folders in \ColdFusion2016\cfusion\jetty\.
  4. Download the Add–on installer for both ColdFusion 11 and ColdFusion (2016 release) from the link, as per your ColdFusion version: https://www.adobe.com/support/coldfusion/downloads.html
  5. Run the installer as an Admin with elevated privileges.
  6. Navigate to the default installation directory for ColdFusion, i.e. \ColdFusion2016\cfusion\jetty\.
  7. Once the installation is complete, please restart ColdFusion services and verify the PDFg services are working.

Not all of your users run Windows, you know.

Fair point, though it would seem only steps 2 and 5 are “windows-specific”, and even then they are steps a linux/macos user could reasonably presume to ignore as not applicable.

Was there more detail you sought for your preferred OS?

For step 6, are you instructing people to navigate to that folder simply to verify that it exists?
If not, then the purpose of the instruction is not clear.

No, that should be the path to install when the installer needs to path where you should install the add-on installer.
