[Update: Support for Windows 8 and Windows 2012 announced for ColdFusion 10 and ColdFusion Builder 2.0.1 : link]

[Update: Pre-release not open anymore]

We are opening up for a short pre-release to get your feedback on the support for new platforms for ColdFusion 10.

Here’s the program description for the pre-release:

The ColdFusion 10 – New Platform Support Prerelease program is intended to get feedback from the pre-release participants on the new platforms that we are supporting for ColdFusion 10. The scope of this prerelease is to ensure that ColdFusion 10 is functional on the new platforms – Windows Server 2012, Windows 8 and OS X 10.8 just as on the existing platforms that ColdFusion 10 is currently supported on.

If you are interested in participating in this pre-release, send an email to rakshith@adobe.com indicating that platform (Windows Server 2012/Windows 8/OS X 10.8) that you will be able to give us feedback on. The pre-release will open to a limited number and for a very short duration. So do send in your interest soon. We are also looking to get a balanced feedback across all the three platforms and that is the reason indicating the platform that you will be able to test on becomes important.

Is the R2 edition of Windows 2012 supported? Are there any issues arising from the update?

@Stephen: All I can say is we are very close to making the new installers available. In fact we are less than a couple of weeks away. Although I do agree that we have not been able to meet the 5 month target that we set for ourselves. I apologize for that.

The upgrade of the bundled JRE 1.7_13 in the new installers to JRE 1.7_15 affected the schedule at the final stage. This was because of security vulnerabilities in JRE 1.7_13 and we took a call to not bundle update 13, but replace it with update 15. But having said that, I understand the frustration that this might have caused to you and others. Please understand that we are sensitive to your needs and are making every effort to make sure that the new installers are available as soon as possible.

I was travelling around on a business trip during the week I made a post for the pre-release announcement. It just did not occur to me that I should point the people on the new platform support thread to the pre-release announcement. Sorry about that. My bad!

I really wish and hope to have your continued support and patronage.

Rakshith,

I am quickly losing faith in not only the support of ColdFusion, but in Adobe as company. As a customer of over 16 years for many of the products (started with Photoshop 3, owned just about every version of Creative Suite Master Edition, and multiple Enterprise ColdFusion licenses – starting with CF3), and having to put up with security compromised products (Acrobat, Flash), asinine installers (and updaters, !?! WTF), I find that things are contantly going downhill.

Now I understand that the the above mentioned issues have nothing to do with your responsibilites, but note the following recent issue and how you have handled the situation:

Back on September 22, 2012 you wrote a post https://coldfusion.adobe.com/post.cfm/coldfusion-10-support-on-windows-8-and-os-x-mountain-lion
stating that Adobe would have new installers within a 3-5 month time frame. Since this blog post was the only official response to the issue of CF10 not working with Windows Server 2012, I subscribed to the thread so that I could be kept up to date with when a release would become available. Before I even found the above blog post, I wrote an email to cfsup@adobe.com regarding the issue, but was never given any response. When I called Adobe support, they had no information and advised that I write an email to cfsupport@adobe.com – but that email bounced back as undeliverable (address doesn’t exist).

So my hopes were raised when you commented on the thread on February 5th, 2012:
“We ready for a pre-release for Windows 2012 server, Windows 8 and OS X 10.8. I will soon be making a post asking folks who are interested in participating in the pre-release to participate in the pre-release give us feedback on the support.”

Three days later, I even wrote a comment asking what the status of the new pre-release was – this was the same day that you decided to make a new post (this one) announcing the pre-release. You didn’t even bother to update the older post letting all of the users who were following the issue know that the pre-release program had started. By the time I had decided to randomly check the cf blog again, the pre-release participation window had already closed.

It is now past the 5 months since you said that compatible installers would become available. As I mentioned in the previous thread, I have a requirement to deploy a new CF10 Enterprise server by March 1st. I have already begun the configuration using Windows Server 2008 (required buying a license that I wouldn’t have otherwise needed if you / Adobe had kept to the 5 month promise – or even better, surprised everyone by getting it done closer to the 3 month timeframe).

Your handling of this matter has added another straw to the proverbial camel’s back, and it’s legs are now buckling. I will think long and hard about purchasing additional licenses from Adobe.

Best of luck – it sounds like it’s sorely needed.

@Ed, Casey: Not everyone who sent across the requests were invited for the pre-release. I hope you understand that it will not be possible to accommodate everyone on the pre-release where we want limited participants for a very short time span. If you do not have an invite yet in your inbox, there is a good chance that you did not make it.

@Peter: I would urge you wait till you hear official support from Adobe. And that will happen very soon.

What’s the deal with this pre release. I submitted my form last week and nothing. Why is this dragging on so long?

With CF10 was possible to install the latest JRE (NOT the JDK) 6 over the installed version used by CF. (after stopping the CF and Jakarta services).

Yes happily running JRE 6 Update 39. Does this apply with the Jave 7 JRE? Don;t want to break a happy server (having CFSHEDULER ISSUES however).

Sheduler page on our CF9 server has been borked for years.

That’s a great way to help out folks on those O/S (we’re not, so I’ll not take up a slot !).
Will you be doing something similar for Java 1.7 support – as Java 1.6 is EOL very very soon… ?

@Ed, the CFsup@adobe.com is the email alias used by Adobe to reply to my bug request to add Windows 2012 and Java 7 support, so it is somewhat relevant.

Anyone can have a typo on an email address – the surprising part is the amount of time that it’s taking to make the correction. Is anyone following the comments in there?

Oh dear… Email not working. Is it just me who has lost complete faith in a product and team that can’t even get an email address right?!!! I’d love to get CF10 working on Windows 2012, and I use OS X 10.8 daily with CF10…

While the posting focuses on OS support, will this also include support for MS SQL Server 2012 and Java 7?

The existing DataDirect drivers in ColdFusion 10 are 4.0 SP1 and DataDirect 5.0.1+ have been certified with MS SQL Server 2012.
