[update: Addresses some concerns that were expressed on availability of 9.0.2 for download on the website]

You must have heard about our plans for ColdFusion 9.0.2 and the non-availability of ColdFusion 9 installers which contain Verity post 31st May here.

Full installers for ColdFusion 9.0.2 will be available for download on the website for everyone. Simply put, ColdFusion 9.0.2 is ColdFusion 9.0.1 minus Verity Plus CHF/Security HF Plus JDK 1.6.029.

Post 31st May, you can still get access to ColdFusion 8 or ColdFusion 9 installers with Verity by reaching out to Adobe support. You need to have a valid support contract purchased prior to 15th May to be able to request this.

@John-r, as for not being able to download CF9 per the URL offered in the blog entry and subsequent comments above, please note it is from 2012 and they are from 2013. Things have indeed changed since then.

Adobe no longer the CF9 installer on their site anywhere for public access (those with support agreements have access to a special page.)

But some good news for you and readers of this blog entry is that someone in the community stepped up to do something about it. Gavin Picken created an online repository where he (and others helping him, including myself) now keep every CF installer (for every point release and every OS) for the past few releases, as well as every updater and hotfix (and docs). You can find that at:

http://www.gpickin.com/cfrepo/

And also, if it’s easier to remember, http://bit.ly/cfdownloads. If anyone wonders why tinyurl.com/cfdownloads doesn’t work, see a blog post I just made with this and some more info:

http://www.carehart.org/blog/client/index.cfm/2014/10/30/finding_coldfusion_installers_and_updates

Finally, you say the page linked “has only 10 and 11 on it”, but in fact it doesn’t even offer those. The page you point to is for “updates”, and in CF10 and 11 updates are now offered from within the CF Admin, so there is no longer the need to offer such public links that way.

As for the CF11 installer, one can of course always find the *current* version of CF always offered on the main Adobe CF download page, at:

http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=coldfusion

Hope that’s helpful.

9.0.2 is not available anywhere to get downloaded. This url (http://www.adobe.com/support/coldfusion/downloads_updates.html#cf9) has only 10 and 11 on it.

Does anyone know where you can actually ORDER a version of ColdFusion 9 Standard edition. I found the developer downloads, but what I if I want to buy for a production server?

Viky, if you read the blog entry that you’re replying to, note that they say you have to contact Adobe support. You can’t ask for CF8 Developer edition here. You can, however, still get both CF9.0.2 and CF10 developer edition for free, at http://www.coldfusion.com.

Ok, I was just asking since that wasn’t always the case. With ColdFusion 8 and prior the updated installers showed the specific version of the installer in the filename such as Coldfusion-8-win.exe for ColdFusion 8.0.0 and coldfusion-801-win.exe for ColdFusion 8.0.1

David, file names always reflect the major version of the product. So the names cannot be changed to reflect 9.0.2. Your suggestion on moving up the 9.0.2 installers is worth considering.

David,

LOL, realised I just linked you your own post. Quality article that highlights the mess that was patching so thanks for that.

David,

Absolutely right re. version numbers on the download, how on earth are you supposed to keep them organised? Also, the links were not very clearly visible, this could be improved further. Also, we still have CF8 servers deployed that at some point may need to be rebuilt. The patching/upgrading on previous versions was an absolute mess (see http://www.dcepler.net/post.cfm/what-does-a-fully-patched-coldfusion-8-0-1-server-look-like) which makes rebuilding a server a 2 day process. A final build installer for version 8 would be excellent. Patching looks easier in CF10 but up to now it has been shambolic and the worst part of using CF.

Upgrading may sound easy but the cost to us in not in the license, it goes in the time to test all of our code and is therefore not always feasible.

Just a few observations. While it is nice that 9.0.2 was released today, all the 9.0.0 installers were replaced on http://www.adobe.com/support/coldfusion/downloads_updates.html with the 9.0.2 installers at around 11am EDT on May 31st which is ON May 31st not POST.

Also the filenames for the downloads are identical to the original 9.0.0 installers. Anyway of getting them named with something that denotes 9.0.2? Lastly would it also be possible to update the heading on the download page to clearly say “ColdFusion 9.0.2 Installers” and move them above the ColdFusion 9.0.1 Cumulative Hot Fix 2. The current content layout on the page is confusing.

Where are the 9.0.2 downloads? There is no sign of them at all on the adobe.com site.

Damon, after May they WILL still be able to download CF9, but not a version including Verity. There will be the new version, 9.0.2, that will NOT include verity.

This was intended to be clarified by Rakshith’s first sentence above, and the link to the other blog entry explaining it in more detail. You’re not the first to have raised questions about this entry (some are taking place elsewhere in forums and mailing lists).

But to be clear, no, you will no longer be able to download CF8 after May. Then again, you could no longer get CF7 once CF9 came out. That’s always been the policy: support is for the current release plus one older release.

Does that answer your question? There’s a lot of confusion on this matter, so I hope our discussion helps other readers, too.

a valid contract? So freelance developers who have to developer for or support older systems cannot even download a developer version of CF8/9 ?
